How to clean jewellery

Of course, you want to keep your jewellery in excellent condition. That's why it's important to clean your jewellery regularly. You're always welcome to visit us for a professional cleaning. But in between visits, you can also clean your jewellery yourself. In this article, we'll explain the best way to do it.

Gold jewellery

Follow the steps below to clean your rings, bracelets, pendants and other gold jewellery:

1. Fill a bowl with warm water and add a few drops of mild dish soap.
2. Let the jewellery soak for 15 minutes.
3. Use a soft toothbrush to gently remove any dirt.
4. Rinse thoroughly under lukewarm running water.
5. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Never use bleach, chlorine or other harsh cleaning products to clean gold jewellery.

Silver jewellery

Silver can become dull due to oxidation. You can restore its shine as follows:

• Step 1: First clean the jewellery using a little warm water, dish soap and an old toothbrush.
• Step 2: Use a silver cleaning solution. You can purchase a jar of silver cleaner in our store. Before use, read the instructions on the packaging. Place your silver jewellery in the solution and let it soak briefly.
• Step 3: It is very important to rinse off the product afterwards. The best way to do this is by repeating step 1.

Jewellery with gemstones

Delicate gemstones such as opals, coral and pearls should never be soaked. Wiping them with a damp cloth is sufficient.

Clean diamonds with warm water, dish soap and a soft brush.

General tips

• Clean your jewellery regularly (for example, once a month) to prevent stubborn dirt from building up.
• Store silver jewellery in a sealed pouch or jewellery box to slow down oxidation. Avoid storing your silver jewellery in a humid bathroom.
• Remove your jewellery when doing heavy manual work (such as moving furniture or DIY projects), exercising, swimming or cleaning.
• Apply perfume, hairspray and lotion first, wait until they have dried, and only then put on your silver jewellery.
